The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly.
Sometimes I discuss a featured topic, sometimes share an interview, and sometimes lead a biblical study. This episode is a talk by (and interview with) the Rev. Dr. Clyde Ervine.
First, Dr. Ervine shares a reflection about Jesus as our anchor in the storm (based on Hebrews 6:19). Then I ask him a few questions based on his insights.
Dr. Ervine was raised in Northern Ireland and was educated at the University of St. Andrew’s and the University of Cambridge. He has recently retired from life as a congregational pastor, but has served—and continues to serve—God through teaching students for ministry and by providing ongoing leadership in the wider church. He has been awarded a Queen’s Jubilee Medal for services to church and community and is working on a book about respectful ministry. Clyde lives in St. Catharines with his rambunctious cocker spaniel Fergus!
In this episode we talk about:
- The biblical metaphor of Jesus as anchor
- The certainty of God in uncertain times
- What it means to “give up on yourself” (but in a positive way)
- Living in truth when you don’t always “feel” it
- How God’s grip on you is greater than your grip on him
- Being tethered to God through reflection, prayer and song
It’s a real happiness for me to present this to you, and I hope that it’s a source of hope and steadfast wisdom for you as well.

Great message from Clyde. This is the first time i listened to a podcast. I kept on doing “housework” and it made the tasks more pleasant for sure. I’m going to go back and listen to the past podcasts. Linda Shaw
