You’re going through something hard. You don’t think anyone else understands.
But then you talk to someone who has been through something similar. As a result, (a) you become more receptive to any advice they may have, and (b) they become motivated to help because they can truly sympathize with your situation.
Someone who’s “been there” like you will be there for you.
Not only was Jesus fully divine, but he was truly human. He has “been there” with respect to our human hardships and even temptations. In this sermon on Hebrews 2:5-18, I explore how the humanity of Jesus provides help for weary souls.
Hebrews 2:18 says: “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
