John the Baptist was a radical, especially when contrasted by the unceasing mantras of our time which blast 24-hour messages from their horrid megaphones: “me-first, look at me, I’m the best, affirm me, I’m strong and independent and don’t need anybody!”
His statement about his relationship to Jesus is one for the ages and stands in contrast to a lost and confused generation: “He must become greater; I must become less.”
Humility is the companion to genuine belief and life change, and is also (according to Augustine) the foundation of all the other virtues.
The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly. It includes different kinds of content: Interviews, featured topics, or biblical studies. This episode is the later—an in-depth look at John 3:22-36.
I take us through the text, focusing especially on the concept of humility, and leave us with some questions to think about as we look in the mirror.
The sermon connected to this same section of text is called “The endangered recipe for greatness” and can be accessed here.
