Scattered disciples and a suffering Saviour who triumphs (Growing Deeper with John 16:25-33)

The disciples have been seeking to understand and follow Jesus; they have made sacrifices and left family and totally changed their lives as they invested their belief and hope in Jesus as the Messiah and King of Israel.

So it must have been surprising — and surely upsetting — when he told them they would be scattered. And abandon him.

But he did. Even still, they would be given peace. “But take heart,” Jesus said, “I have overcome the world.”

How could he say that while heading to the cross?

The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly. It includes different kinds of content: Interviews, featured topics, or biblical studies. This episode is the later—and in-depth look at John 16:25-33. We also spend some time on Psalm 22.

I take us through the text, provide some background and context, and also introduce the idea of providence and how it impacts Jesus’ thinking — and also our own.

Enjoy!

The sermon connected to this same section of text is called “Is it all chance or providence?” and can be accessed here.
