John 3:16—unpacking the world’s most famous verse and peering into the heart of God (Growing Deeper with John 3:16-21)

It’s the most famous Bible verse in the world. You see it on placards at football games and engraved on tombstones. Music star Keith Urban sings about three big Johns in his life: “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16.”

Matthew Henry says it is a mini-presentation of the gospel. Max Lucado says, “If you know nothing about the Bible, start here. If you know everything in the Bible, return here.”

But when we hear something so much, we stop hearing it. Instead of paying more attention, we pay less. Let’s not let that happen.

The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly. It includes different kinds of content: Interviews, featured topics, or biblical studies. This episode is the later—an in-depth look at John 3:1-21. This episode looks specifically at verses 16-21; I explored the first 15 verses the previous week.

I take us through the text, giving us some things to think about which we may have glossed over before.

Enjoy! (Eternity is at stake.)

The sermon connected to this same section of text is called “John 3:16 – If I should wake before I die” and can be found here.
