Psalm 139. Robert Alter calls it “one of the most remarkably introspective psalms in the entire canonical collection.”
Bible scholar N.T. Wright says: “All our hidden motives and fears are like an open book before him; he knows where they came from, and he understands what they are doing to us and what we are doing with them.”
It is here where we learn with poetry and power about God’s omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence. It famously describes how we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” and includes this often-quoted request: “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!”
The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly. It includes different kinds of content: Interviews, featured topics, or biblical studies. This episode is the later—and in-depth look at Psalm 139.
I take us through the text, provide some explanation and background, and invite us to consider what it means to be known by the God who gives us value and who leads us in the “way everlasting.”
Enjoy!
The sermon that goes along with this same section of text is called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” and can be accessed here.
