My Music

I’m a songwriter and singer.  Over the years I’ve written, played and performed in different genres. Here are a few songs from the pop/rock world:

Better Off
A rock song where the Icarus story is woven into a narrative about romance. [Copyright by Matthew Ruttan, (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke. Published by Sony/ATV Tree Music Publishing.]

Shooting Star
A song in the rock/pop genre likening a person to a shooting star. [Copyright by Matthew Ruttan, (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke. Recorded in Nashville.]

When We Are Angels
This is a slower tempo song and is a commentary on the “Little Apocalypse” in chapter 13 of Mark’s Gospel. It’s a demo from several years ago. [Copyright by Matthew Ruttan, (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke.]

Adrenaline
The word “adrenaline” is used here as a synonym of ‘Spirit’ or ‘Word’ as a gift from God upon the occasion of trust/belief. [Copyright by Matthew Ruttan, (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke.]

The Joke’s On You
This song is a strange blend of things—but one of my favourites. Almost pseudo-country meets Stone Temple Pilots. The line in the chorus is: “The joke’s on you if you can’t let go.”

The New Caffeine
I remember starting to write the lyrics to this while living in Toronto working as an office manager for PCL Constructors.  I was doing various jobs to make ends meet while working the music scene. [Copyright by Matthew Ruttan, (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke. Published by Song/ATV Tree Music Publishing.]

From Heaven to Earth

In 2016 I wrote a song called “From Heaven to Earth.” This video includes a live recording of me playing it during a worship service at Westminster Church in Barrie, Ontario, on December 4th.

Many songs have been written since these and I hope to record some more of them. You may see some arrive as acoustic solo recordings with just lyrics and guitar. It just depends on how much free time I get!

Enjoy!
