My Music

I’m a songwriter and singer. Over the years I’ve written, played and performed in different genres. Here are a few songs from the pop rock world.

Most of these songs are from several years ago, but I might be recording and releasing a new batch of songs, perhaps in 2020. But it just depends on how much free time I get.

Better Off

A pop/rock song where the Icarus story is woven into a narrative about romance. I think I had the original idea for this while at the Muskoka Drive-In. From the Meraudio album Angels and Gasoline. Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Mike Wrucke, Steve Brewster. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke. Published by Sony/ATV Tree Music Publishing.]

Seven

This is a pop rock song from many years back about romantically pursing a girl who is super-distractable. From the Meraudio album Angels and Gasoline. Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Jay Ruston, Tim Browne, Shon Roper, Paul Gangadeen, Andrew Lamarche. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Jay Ruston. The recording of this song was sponsored in part by a grant from the Ontario Arts Council.]

Shooting Star

A song in the pop rock genre likening a person to a shooting star. From the Meraudio album Angels and Gasoline. Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Mike Wrucke, Steve Brewster, Natalie Hemby (harmonies), Jimmy Carter. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke.]

Adrenaline

The word “adrenaline” is used here as a synonym of ‘Holy Spirit’ as a gift from God upon the occasion of trust in Jesus. Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Mike Wrucke. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; demo produced by Mike Wrucke.]

When We Are Angels

This is a slower tempo song and is a commentary on the “Little Apocalypse” in chapter 13 of Mark’s Gospel. It’s a demo from several years ago. Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Mike Wrucke. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; demo produced by Mike Wrucke.]

Sub-Psycho Dream Reality (live)

Here is a live version of this song, recorded through the sound board at C’est What in Toronto during a performance of my band Meraudio. The full studio version is on the Angels and Gasoline album. Live musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Tim Browne, Dale Sood, Shon Roper. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN), written by Matthew Ruttan. The soundman that night was Crispin Giles.]

The Joke’s On You

This song is a strange blend of things, but one of my favourites. Almost Johnny Cash meets Stone Temple Pilots. The line in the chorus is: “The joke’s on you if you can’t let go.” Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Mike Wrucke. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; demo produced by Mike Wrucke.]

The New Caffeine

I remember starting to write the lyrics to this while living in Toronto working as an office manager for PCL Constructors.  I was doing various jobs to make ends meet while working the music scene. From the Meraudio album Angels and Gasoline. Musicians: Matthew Ruttan, Mike Wrucke, Steve Brewster, Jimmy Carter. [© Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan; produced by Mike Wrucke. Published by Sony/ATV Tree Music Publishing.]

From Heaven to Earth

I wrote this a few years ago. This video includes a rough live recording of me playing it during a worship service at Westminster Church in Barrie, Canada.  [Copyright Matthew Ruttan (SOCAN); written by Matthew Ruttan.]

I’ve written several songs recently and hope to record some more soon, possibly to be made available in 2020. I’ll keep you posted. 🙂
