Jesus compared his return to labour pains. Having a baby is at the same time exciting and scary, painful and joyful, dangerous and life-changing. So it will be when he returns. There will be increasing trouble, but also something beautiful and breath-taking at the end.
After his capture and servitude in a foreign court for most of his life, Daniel began to have visions about the end of days. Four terrifying beasts emerged from the sea, each fearsome in its own right. The last was particularly troublesome. Daniel was distressed. And yet, seated on his throne, the Ancient of Days cast down judgment. Delay does not mean defeat. God cannot lose—and neither can his people.
This sermon explores the first of Daniel’s four visions (Daniel 7), provides historical context to what he saw, and speaks to how this impacts us today—because it does. Yes, our world is going into labour.
