Not because of our track record, but yours—a prayer

I invite you to engage this prayer I led in the worship service at Westminster on March 8, 2026. With thanks to William Min for the music.

Below is the audio, and underneath are the words.

O Lord who is ours forevermore:
In the turning of days you are you
stronger than castles,
more loving than any mom or dad on earth.
In an age of embarrassing subjectivity,
you are Truth itself.
Your name is holy—
and by that we mean
special, different, unparalleled, sacred.
And here we are, your children—
in many ways rebels and wrecks.
We come to you not because of our track record, but yours.
Our dirty hands are open to you.
Forgive us

me-first choices,
silly or hurtful words,
and our actions that are so frequently anything but holy.
You know the ones.
We repent.
We turn to you.
We trust you, the Lord who is ours forevermore.
We unceasingly praise you,
that you have wiped our slate clean
With the loving blood of Jesus.
All these things we pray in his name,
and together with the words he taught us, saying:
Our Father, who art in heaven…
