Is the presence of darkness the absence of God? (Daniel 2)

After witnessing horror and death, the besieging of his capital city, and being taken captive to serve in a foreign nation (and having his name changed and possibly enduring castration along the way), Daniel started to experience a meteoric rise in influence and authority.

Shortly after his training for royal service, he faced a crisis. In fact, hundreds (and possibly thousands) faced it. If he couldn’t interpret the king’s dream, he and the others would be killed. Blood would flow. Still a teenager, Daniel relied on God, asked for help, and intervened in a storm of political chaos and violence.

This sermon explains Daniel 2, and invites each of us to think about the powerful tension that exists in the world and in our lives between God’s light and serious darkness. What do we do, and to whom do we belong, when faced with difficulty or danger?
