John’s Gospel and the Word made flesh (Growing Deeper with John 1:1-5)

The Gospel of John is one of the most influential documents ever to be written on earth.

The Bible itself is the world’s number one best seller, generation after generation. And within that, the Gospel of John holds a special place of prominence.

It is quoted frequently at funerals, football games, tattooed on arms, and has been written in the hearts and minds of soldiers, teens, addicts, and housewives.

But who wrote it, why did they write it, and how does it continue to speak to us today?

The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly. It includes different kinds of content: Interviews, featured topics, or biblical studies. This episode is the later—an introduction to John’s Gospel and an in-depth look at John 1:1-5. This is the first of many episodes taking us through this all-important book.

I answer the questions above, explain what makes it unique among the other three Gospels, take us through the first five verses, provide some key pieces of background, and encourage us to think through how we know if we’re headed in the right direction in life?

Enjoy!

The sermon that accompanies this same section of text is called “Am I headed in the right direction?” and can be accessed here.
