The advantage of Jesus’ departure, three ways the Spirit works, and sorrowful joy (Growing Deeper with John 16:4b-24)

In the heavy-hearted lead-up to his torture, crucifixion and death, Jesus tells his disciples that it is actually to their advantage that he goes away from them. That’s hard to fathom. But only when he goes away will he send them the Holy Spirit.

Hold on a minute. That makes it sound like the Holy Spirit is locked up in a box and not yet doing things in the world. How does the Holy Spirit work? What is he doing? What new thing is happening after the departure of Jesus?

The Pulse Podcast is about living abundantly wholeheartedly. It includes different kinds of content: Interviews, featured topics, or biblical studies. This episode is the later—and in-depth look at John 16:4b-24.

I take us through the text and provide background on all of the points and questions mentioned above.

Enjoy!
