Where is God? – Esther, Part 1 [Sermon]

The young Esther rises to become Queen, confronts the misguided King, and saves her people in a great act of courage. Yes, that’s a big part of the story. But, as we will find, there is much more going on.

The book doesn’t even mention the name of God. Does that mean God is absent? Definitely not. The lack of God’s name is intentional; it challenges us to see when and where God is working even when it’s not obvious, and even as God’s people live in a land far removed from their native Judah.

In this sermon, I provide an overview of the book, take us through chapters 1 and 2, and invite us to ponder providence–the invisible hand of God, even when we’re surrounded by danger, deception, people who are unlike us, and when it feels like everything is spinning out of control.

    1. Hi Bruce, that is for sure! A challenging and politically hostile environment! A good place to look for God’s providence…
